Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who have fallen in battle while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Their service helped to shape us as a Nation and has helped protect our security in a troubled world. If it not for their service, we might all be facing different circumstances today.
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day. It originated after the American Civil War to commemorate the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the Civil War. By the 20th Century, Memorial Day had been extended to honor all Americans who have died while in the military service.
